I spent part of last week playing around with a piece of online publication software called Issuu. Basically it allows you to upload word docs, PDFs etc and turns them into online booklets for you. This has the advantage of looking a bit nicer and more interactive than a paper handout and it means all the URLs are live. The booklets can be downloaded as PDF files for those using screen-reader software.
This is a basic word doc which I uploaded: http://issuu.com/drsarah/docs/refworks_clinicaloncology
And this is something more substantial which I created in Publisher, saved as a PDF and then uploaded: http://issuu.com/drsarah/docs/findinginfo
I got the idea from a subject librarian at York (Ned Potter) who I follow on Twitter. He created a fantastic Prezi for his library induction and paired it workbooks created in Issuu – his blog post on both (with links to Prezi and Issuu) is here: http://thewikiman.org/blog/?p=1796. Well worth a look.
