2011 saw the deaths of many technology greats including Michael Stern Hart who started Project Gutenberg in 1971 and is seen as the founder of ebooks themselves. His first success was to enter the text of the US Declaration of Independence into a computer network that year.
Project Gutenberg is still a rich source of freely downloadable classics from around the world for reading on PCs, laptops, ebook readers, smartphones and tablets.
